LINWOOD, N.J. -- A high school and its community were grappling yesterday with a hard reality: four football players were dead and four others were injured in a car crash.

The driver, Case Brenner, 17, of Northfield, apparently lost control of the sport utility vehicle Saturday morning as it went around a crest on the Garden State Parkway and came upon heavy traffic, said State Police Sgt. Julian Castellanos. The SUV overturned several times, ejecting two passengers, one of whom was struck by a passing car, he said.

All eight played for the Mainland Regional High School football team in Linwood, near Atlantic City. Killed were Brenner, Dean Khoury of Linwood, 15; Edgar Bozzi, 16, of Somers Point and Nicholas Conner, 16, of Northfield. -- AP
