Seeing is believing for police officers in one city in New Mexico.

On a routine night at the police station in Espanola, New Mexico, surveillance cameras picked up images of what some officers believe to be a ghost.

In the black-and-white surveillance footage, a whitish blur appears to walk in a distinctly humanlike way across a secured area and through a locked gate.

“At first I thought it was a podilla, a fly or moth, then I saw the legs, and it was a human. But not a real human. No, a ghost,” Espanola police officer Karl Romero told the local TV station KOAT Albuquerque.

Detectives told KOAT that there is no way in or out of the secured area filmed in the surveillance video without opening a gate that would sound an alarm. They added that there is no logical explanation for the spooky image captured on video — no lighting issue or technical glitch.

But Detective Solomon Romero told KOAT that he may have an explanation.

“A lot of officers have seen certain things,” he said. “Some officers have felt someone breathing down their necks as they're working in the briefing room.”

Could there in fact be a ghost — or several — in the Espanola police station? Or are officers just imagining things?

For Detective Romero, the answer is clear.

“I do believe in ghosts,” he said. “It's hard to say but I do believe it was a ghost.”
