Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among the hundreds of cyclists who completed an annual bike ride in Tucson.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that Giffords rode across the finish line in the El Tour de Tucson cycling ride Saturday morning.

In an email, Giffords says she has worked hard to get back on her bike and she's ready.

The Tucson native rode with her husband, retired astronaut Mark Kelly, and a friend.

Organizers say the event includes 11-mile and 5-mile "fun rides" that are expected to draw about 600 cyclists.

Giffords, who was critically wounded in the 2011 Tucson mass shooting, has been training on a recumbent bicycle for six months.

One of her goals was to ride the El Tour race.
