WEST CARTHAGE, N.Y. — The pilot of a small helicopter died in a crash in upstate New York and investigators are trying to determine its cause.

The helicopter crashed midday Saturday in West Carthage, about 70 miles (112 kilometers) north of Syracuse. The pilot was later declared dead at a local hospital, New York State Police said in a prepared release.

Police on Sunday did not release the pilot's name or additional information about the crash.
