Hot enough to fry an egg? In Wisconsin, not quite
Who says meteorologists don't have a sense of humor?
When air temperatures hit 105 degrees in southeastern Wisconsin this week, employees at the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan decided to try an "eggsperiment."
They noted that the pavement in their freshly blackened parking lot had topped 120 degrees. So they asked themselves, would that be hot enough to fry an egg?
They cracked an egg at 3:45 p.m., during peak heating. They let it sit for three hours, while the pavement remained between 110 and 120 degrees. They observed some whitening on the edges, but the egg remained mostly uncooked.
According to a summary on the weather bureau's website, "Next time, we will try some butter and salt, and perhaps a magnifying glass."
