Jessica Schumer may get White House promotion

WASHINGTON -- The daughter of Sen. Charles Schumer is in line to become chief of staff to Jason Furman, nominated Monday to chair the White House Council of Economic Advisers.
If the Senate confirms Furman, Jessica Schumer, 28, is expected to be promoted to a post working with the top tier of economic advisers to President Barack Obama.
About two years after she started working in the White House, she is now deputy chief of staff of the National Economic Council, which coordinates economic policy across federal departments and agencies. She was paid $60,000 last year, White House records show.
Furman, an adviser to Obama since his 2008 run for president, is now deputy chairman of that economic council.
A White House official said no official announcement would be made about the job until Furman is confirmed.
Schumer (D-N.Y.), known for his network of former aides in influential positions, declined to comment. Records show he has visited his daughter at the White House five times in the past two years.
A White House official said Jessica Schumer does a lot of work in the communications department and has been helpful in gathering data useful in economic policy-making.
She also has worked with White House adviser Brian Deese, who was involved in the auto manufacturer bailout.
Jessica Schumer is a graduate of Harvard University, her father's alma mater, and Yale Law School. She went to work in the Obama administration as an adviser to then National Economic Council chairman Larry Summers after winning a Heyman Federal Public Service Fellowship as she graduated from law school in 2010, records show.
