Metro train derails, minor injuries reported

Metro says a six-car red line train has derailed near the Farragut North station in downtown Washington and three minor injuries have been reported.

Spokeswoman Cathy Asato says only the front wheels of the train’s first car slipped off the rail just after 10 a.m. Friday.

She says the car did not hit anything when it derailed.

Asato says all 345 passengers have now left the train and the station has reopened. She says three people had minor injuries and one of them was taken to a hospital.

Some passengers say they felt a jolt before the train suddenly stopped.

A Metro train crash in June killed nine people when one train slammed into another that was stopped on the tracks.
