Museums closed Native American exhibits 6 months ago. Tribes are still waiting to get items back

NEW YORK — In a story published Jul. 29, 2024, about new rules requiring U.S. museums to return certain items to Native American tribes, The Associated Press erroneously reported the scope of repatriations to tribes undertaken by the Field Museum in Chicago. The museum has completed four repatriations involving around 40 items over the past six months, with at least three more repatriations pending involving additional items.
