CONNECTICUT: Truck malfunction blamed
A rented U-Haul truck that struck and killed a tailgater at a Yale-Harvard football game malfunctioned as a Yale undergraduate drove it into a crowded parking lot, the student's attorney said Sunday. William Dow, representing Brendan Ross, said Saturday's collision was a "tragic accident that appears to be the result of a vehicle malfunction." He said Ross and his family wanted to express their condolences to the three people who were hit by the truck, including to the family of Nancy Barry, 30, of Salem, Mass., who was killed. Sarah Short, 31, a Yale student, remained hospitalized with leg injuries. Elizabeth Dernbach, 23, a Harvard employee, was treated for her injuries Saturday and released. Ross passed a field sobriety test and police said he has been cooperative in their investigation, which remained open. No charges had been filed.
FLORIDA: Surgery suspect charged
A woman who wanted to work at a nightclub looked for low-cost plastic surgery to give her a curvier body. Police say what she found was a woman posing as a doctor who filled her buttocks with cement, mineral oil and flat-tire sealant. The suspect, who police say was born a man and identifies as a woman, apparently performed the surgery on herself, and investigators say she may have victimized others. Oneal Ron Morris, 30, was arrested Friday after a year on the lam and has been charged with practicing medicine without a license with serious bodily injury.
New storm forms off Mexico

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday that Kenneth had maximum sustained winds near 40 mph. The storm was centered about 525 miles south of Manzanillo, Mexico. Projections show Kenneth moving west out to sea, away from land, over the next several days. The eastern Pacific hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
