WASHINGTON: Israel: Won't warn U.S.

Israeli officials say they won't warn the United States if they decide to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, according to a U.S. intelligence official familiar with the discussions. The pronouncement, delivered in private, top-level conversations in Israel, sets a tense tone ahead of meetings in the coming days at the White House and Capitol Hill. Israeli officials said that if they eventually decide a strike is necessary, they would keep the Americans in the dark to decrease the likelihood that the United States would be held responsible for failing to stop Israel's potential attack.

The trial comes months after Congress responded to complaints that the Peace Corps hasn't done enough to protect its volunteers from sexual assaults with legislation requiring the agency to better train participants in how to avoid such attacks. The 27-year-old woman testified in a courtroom at Naval Station Norfolk about her sexual encounter with Petty Officer 2nd Class Camaren Walker in November 2010.

CALIFORNIA: Occupiers clash with cops

Two law enforcement officers were injured Monday in a clash with members of the Occupy movement who were at the state Capitol in Sacramento to counter a rally by a group protesting violence by blacks against whites in South Africa. The clash erupted as officers were escorting members of the South Africa Project to a parking garage after their protest outside the Capitol. About 50 members of Occupy Oakland began throwing cans and bottles at the group and at the officers.
