TEXAS: Mom killed, baby found

A newborn abducted from his dying mother after she was repeatedly shot outside a doctor's office in Spring, north of Houston, was found Tuesday night. The father was on his way to be reunited with the 3-day-old, officials said. Kala Marie Golden, 28, was leaving a pediatric checkup with her son when she had a verbal altercation with a woman in a Lexus. Witnesses said the woman repeatedly shot Golden, snatched the baby and hit Golden as she sped off.

MICHIGAN: Lottery winner's fraud count

A lottery winner was charged with fraud Tuesday for collecting food stamps and public health insurance despite pocketing a $735,000 jackpot. A not guilty plea was entered for Amanda Clayton, 25, the second person in Michigan caught with food stamps despite newly minted wealth. Last week, Gov. Rick Snyder signed a law requiring the lottery to notify the Human Services Department when someone wins at least $1,000. Clayton, the mother of a 1-year-old, is charged with failing to inform the state that her income had changed as a result of the lottery prize and a job. She won a $1 million jackpot on a game show and chose a $735,000 lump sum.

GEORGIA: Kindergartner in handcuffs

A kindergartner who threw a tantrum at school was taken away in handcuffs in an episode that is firing up a debate over whether teachers and police are overreacting when dealing with disruptive students. The family of Salecia Johnson, 6, lashed out Tuesday over her treatment, while the school system and the police defended how they handled the episode.
