NATIONWIDE: FDA lists steroid customers

The Food and Drug Administration issued a customer list Monday for the specialty pharmacy at the center of a national fungal meningitis outbreak, naming the medical practices in each state that got any products since May that were recalled later, and how much each received. All were customers of New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Mass. A deadly outbreak of a rare fungal form of meningitis has been tied to steroid shots made by the company since May.


OHIO: Teen drug lord gets prison

A teenager convicted of selling up to $20,000 worth of high-grade marijuana a month to high school students was sentenced Monday to six months to three years in a juvenile prison. Ohio's Department of Youth Services will ultimately decide how long Tyler Pagenstecher, 18, of Mason will be in prison, depending on his behavior. The Associated Press is naming Pagenstecher because of the seriousness of the crimes and because his identity became public following the pressing of the charges against him when he was 17.


TEXAS: State's school funding 'broken'

Attorneys for hundreds of school districts told a judge Monday that Texas' system for funding public schools is "hopelessly broken" and could eventually cost the state billions of dollars in lost tax revenues. The districts reacted in part to lawmakers cutting $5.4 billion from schools nearly 18 months ago. The attorneys addressed Judge John Dietz in opening statements in a trial involving six lawsuits on behalf of about two-thirds of Texas school districts.
