New York Times Co. CEO Robinson to step down

The New York Times Co. says chief executive Janet Robinson will step down at the end of the year, to be replaced on an interim basis by Arthur Sulzberger Jr.

Sulzberger is currently chairman of the company and publisher of its flagship New York Times newspaper.

Robinson, 61, became CEO in 2004. She said she leaves the company with mixed emotions after working at the paper for 28 years. She also expressed pride for helping the paper navigate the transition from traditional print journalism to the digital world.

Robinson will serve as a consultant for one year.

The company is initiating a search for a new chief executive.
