President Barack Obama said Wednesday that his Republican re-election opponent, Mitt Romney, "presented some ideas during the course of the campaign that I actually agree with" and he would like to "see if there are some ways that we can potentially work together."

In his White House news conference, Obama said he hasn't had such a discussion with Romney yet, and had no specific assignment in mind, but "my hope is before the end of the year we have a chance to sit down and talk."

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, "did a terrific job running the Olympics," Obama said, referring to the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, "and that skill set of trying to figure out how do we make something work better applies to the federal government."

In addition, "There may be ideas that he has with respect to jobs and growth that can help middle-class families that I want to hear," Obama said.
