WASHINGTON — In a story published June 25, 2024, about Surgeon General Vivek Murthy declaring gun violence a public health crisis, The Associated Press erroneously reported that he called on the U.S. to ban automatic rifles. He called for a ban on “assault weapons and large-capacity magazines for civilian use.”
