Florida man moves wedding date up a full year so terminally ill mother could attend
Weddings are traditionally a time to be surrounded by loved ones. So when Tyler Crosby of Lakeland, Florida, recently learned his cancer-stricken mother has only weeks to live, he knew the most important part of his upcoming wedding would be having her there.
Crosby, 26, and bride Amanda were set to marry next year, but decided to push the wedding up a full year so that his mother, Dot Crosby, 48, could attend, according to published reports including ABC News and the New York Daily News.
On Nov. 14, the couple exchanged vows on a ranch in their hometown of Lakeland. Dot Crosby, who has breast cancer and receives hospice care at home, arrived at the ceremony via ambulance.
During the reception, Dot and Tyler Crosby got to share a special dance, with Tyler Crosby twirling his mother in her wheelchair around the dance floor.
"I don't think there was anybody who wasn't crying," photographer Regina Rached told the Daily News.
Dot Crosby learned she had stage-three breast cancer in August 2014. In tribute to her, the Crosby siblings, as well as about 40 other friends and family members, got tattoos of a small dot on their hands.
