WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Senate will vote next week on the nomination of Loretta Lynch to be attorney general, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday.

McConnell did not say which day he will hold the vote, an aide said. Democrats have been pressing him for almost two weeks to schedule a vote.

Lynch, the U.S. attorney for Long Island and three city boroughs, is expected to win confirmation with a majority vote.

But the vote could be close. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved her nomination on Feb. 26, and sent it to the full Senate with the support of just three of its 11 Republican members.
