NBA roundup
LeBron James badly wanted to give back to Cleveland fans after playing poorly in his emotion-laced home opener, so he delivered a belated gift. James had 32 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists and Kyrie Irving scored 27 of his 32 in the second half last night as the Cavaliers beat the New Orleans Pelicans, 118-111.
Kevin Love (22 points) hit six three-pointers for the Cavs, back at Quicken Loans Arena for the first time since Oct. 30, when Cleveland welcomed James home after four seasons in Miami. He failed to play up to the monumental event, shooting 5-for-15 and committing eight turnovers in a loss to the Knicks.
After the Cavs returned from a four-game road trip, James went on his Twitter account and told Cleveland fans, "I owe y'all one." Not anymore.
"It worked out. It's good when you put something out there and it comes true," he said. "I owed them one, and many more as well.''
James and Irving (nine assists) totaled 49 points in the second half, 30 in the third quarter. Ryan Anderson's 32 points and Anthony Davis' 27 points and 14 rebounds led the Pelicans.
Pacers 97, Jazz 86: Roy Hibbert scored 29 points to help host Indiana end a six-game losing streak. Amityville's A.J. Price, playing on a 10-day contract, scored 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, including two three-pointers during a 13-2 run.
"I'm playing for my life," Price said. "That's what it's been for the last couple years for me. I am staying until they tell me to go. I'm going to keep playing as hard as I can."
Gordon Hayward scored 30 points for Utah.
Spurs 89, Clippers 85: Kawhi Leonard's 26 points and 10 rebounds and Tim Duncan's 18 points and 11 rebounds led the Spurs, who ended on a 14-3 run. Blake Griffin's 23 points and 10 rebounds led the host Clippers.
Bulls 102, Pistons 91: Derrick Rose led host Chicago with 24 points and seven assists. Pau Gasol had 17 points and 15 rebounds and Joakim Noah added 13 points, 14 rebounds and six assists.-- AP
