Sept. 11 heroes will be in the spotlight Saturday at a Nesconset tree-lighting.

A sign declaring “Heroes Way” will be dedicated and unveiled when a Christmas tree is lit at the 9/11 Responders Remembered Park, at Smithtown Boulevard and Gibbs Pond Road. The ceremony is at 6 p.m.

The street sign, prepared by the Town of Smithtown Traffic Safety Department, will honor those “who gave all that they could to help those in need,” according to a release from Suffolk County Legis. John M. Kennedy Jr. (R-Nesconset).

The park, which opened last year, honors hundreds of firefighters, police officers, construction workers and others who died from illnesses contracted when they took part in recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site after the 2001 terror attacks.

Saturday’s festivities are to include holiday carols sung by the Sachem High School North choir, and a visit from Santa Claus, escorted by the Nesconset Fire Department. Seasonal refreshments will be served. For information, call Kennedy’s office at 631-854-3735.
