Nets' Deron Williams has successful surgery on both ankles

Deron Williams underwent successful surgery on both ankles, Nets general manager Billy King announced yesterday.

"The arthroscopic surgery performed today on Deron's left ankle included the removal of spurs from the front and back of the ankle, as well as a cleaning out of his ankle joint," team foot and ankle specialist Dr. Martin O'Malley said in a statement released by the team. "In addition, Deron underwent a procedure on his right ankle to remove a loose bone fragment that was below his right ankle joint."

O'Malley said Williams, who has been plagued by ankle injuries throughout his time in Brooklyn, is expected to be on crutches for four to six weeks before beginning his rehabilitation.

"He is scheduled to begin light court activities in August, which will progress to full basketball activities in September," O'Malley said in the statement. "Deron is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the beginning of training camp."

Williams averaged 14.3 points and 6.1 assists in 63 games for the Nets this season. Of the 18 games he missed due to injury this season, 16 were the result of a sprained left ankle.
