The Coast Guard today will dedicate a new 10,000-square-foot boathouse at Station Eatons Neck to replace a structure destroyed by a fire on Christmas Eve 2008.

The new boathouse, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, includes a drive-through boat bay, a new launching ramp, maintenance shops and offices for personnel. It was designed to resemble the previous boathouse built in 1936 and to blend with the existing historical buildings on the site.

Construction began a year ago.

Since the fire, simple repairs have been done outdoors, while more time-consuming work was handled at Station East Moriches.
