The Smithtown Youth Bureau has a new leader.

Kelly DeVito, a community relations specialist for the town agency, was named the bureau’s executive director Thursday by a unanimous vote of the town board.

She succeeds Patsy Hirschhorn, who retired last year.

DeVito, 32, of Selden, said her appointment is provisional until she passes a civil service exam, but she does not know when the exam will be offered. Her annual salary is $78,890.
She joined the youth bureau five years ago after working for the Huntington Youth Bureau for four years.

DeVito said her goal is “to continue to expand on our programs and continue reaching out so people know who we are.”

The youth bureau has a $206,061 annual budget and a staff of three part-time employees who organize the volunteer youth advisory board and provide after-school and summer programs for children and teenagers.

The bureau also has a resource center that offers support and education to parents.
