Marine registry proposal

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has proposed to make permanent the no-fee Recreational Marine Fishing Registry (RMFR) as part of the 2013-14 executive budget. Under the proposal, marine registrations would be valid one year from the date of registration; currently they are valid on a calendar-year basis.

All residents who fish in the New York States Coastal Marine District and adjacent federal waters must be registered. Additional information about the RMFR (including how to register) is available at dec.ny.gov/permits/54950.html. You can call the state Department of Environmental Conservation at 631-444-0435 (saltwater) or 631-444-0280 (freshwater) or visit dec.ny.gov/outdoor/fishing.html for information. For federal rules on catching mako shark, call 301-713-2347. For rules on bluefin and yellowfin tuna, call 888-872-8862. Also visit the National Marine Fisheries Service permit shop webpage at hmspermits.noaa.gov.
