New flower bed at Sagamore Hill

The Friends of Sagamore Hill will hold a ribbon cutting tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. for a new flower bed that beautifies the park entrance welcome sign at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site.

The project, which was conceived and researched by park volunteer Margarethe Randall along with Peter Hogarty of Ireland Gannon Associates, includes some of first lady Edith Roosevelt’s favorite plantings from her cutting garden, including coreopsis, Montauk daisy and clematis.

The friends group, under the direction of board member Michael Vezzi, raised more than $4,000 for the project, which was designed by the National Park Service’s Olmsted Center for Landscape Preservation.

Dodds & Eder of Oyster Bay is installing the landscaping.
