THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a budget of $32,560,270 for the 2010-11 school year, an increase of 3.13 percent from the current budget of $31,572,596. The tax levy would rise to $25,986,384, an increase of 4.91 percent over the current $24,770,884.

The average homeowner with a house with an assessed valuation of $1,085.41 would pay $2,720.05 in school taxes, an increase of 4.91 percent over the current figure of $2,592.82.

The proposed budget includes a contractual increase in teacher salaries of 3.4 percent.

In addition, the district is calling for reductions to clubs and clinics that include restricting students eligible for English language arts (ELA) and math clinics to only third-graders and to all students who score a 1 or 2 on the previous year's ELA/ math assessments in grades 4, 5 and 6.

THE CANDIDATES

Incumbents Ernest Gentile, Joseph Bongiorno and Joan Romagnoli are running unopposed for three-year terms.
