The Glen Cove City Council on Tuesday approved a new “twilight” golf fee for nonresidents in an effort to boost play — and revenue — in slow times on the municipal course.

The new $49 rate for a round per golfer, including a shared golf cart, will be in effect Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The change was recommended by the city golf commission.

The new rate is in addition to the existing $40 twilight rate for nonresidents, also with a shared cart, that applies when there is space on the course, usually in early afternoon.

Rates for residents were not changed.

Mayor Ralph Suozzi said there was no estimate of how much money the new fees would bring into city coffers, but since no additional costs are involved, anything generated would be “free money.”

City officials will be reviewing the annual memberships with the golf commission at the end of the season, Suozzi said.

Details on fees and memberships are posted on Glen Cove's website.
