Brooklyn teen shot

in crossfire, cops say

A 13-year-old boy who survived a gunshot wound to the head in Brooklyn yesterday may have been caught in crossfire, the NYPD said.

The teen was struck shortly before noon outside of store on Flatbush Avenue at Beverly Road, police said. He was taken to Kings County hospital, conscious and in stable condition.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man, who police say may have been the intended target, walked into Kings County Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to police officials. There were no details provided about the suspect, who is possibly a male in his 20s, an NYPD spokesman said.

Pooch rescued from

rails finds new home

A dog rescued from the middle of Metro-North tracks in Harlem last week now has a home, Animal Care & Control said yesterday.

The Miller family on Sunday brought home Tie -- named for her treacherous walk through railroad ties -- five days after two MTA police officers pulled the 3-year-old pup to safety from the train tracks on April 8, according to the group, which did not provide additional details about the dog's new family.

Animal Care & Control said it received more than 100 calls and three dozen adoption applications for Tie, who was found without a tag or microchip.

Rangel's challenger gets endorsements

State Sen. Adriano Espaillat racked up major support yesterday in his second primary challenge to Rep. Charles Rangel.

The Bronx County Democrats endorsed Espaillat, calling him an effective leader who will bring change to Washington. The 59-year-old senator is facing a tight race against Rangel, who is running for his 23rd term, for New York's 13th District that includes upper Manhattan and the Bronx.

"Adriano is a proven fighter in our community and I know he will give our residents a strong voice in Washington," Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. said in a statement.

The borough president was one of several Democrats who gave their support. Others included state Assemb. José Rivera and councilmen Andrew Cohen and Richie Torres.

Rangel's campaign office noted that the "Harlem Lion" has plenty of important endorsements including Sen. Charles Schumer, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Joseph Crowley, who leads the Queens Democratic Party.

Two years ago, Rangel, 83, edged out Espaillat in the Democratic primary by 1,086 votes. The state senator promised to fairly represent the Bronx if he wins the June 24 primary.

"Together, we will give a voice to thousands of Bronx residents who have been forgotten in Washington," Espaillat said in a statement.
