Alumni of the New York Rangers hockey team will attend a reopening ceremony for the Sandy-damaged Long Beach Ice Arena on Saturday.

Former Rangers players will play an exhibition game against Long Beach public safety and emergency workers at 6 p.m. that day, city officials said in a statement.

One of the featured Rangers players will be Stéphane Matteau, who is best remembered for his series-winning overtime goal in the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals, city officials said.

“The ice rink served as the Rangers’ practice facility during the 1970s, was damaged during Hurricane Sandy, and remained closed while serving as a key FEMA supply collection and distribution center following the storm,” city officials said in a statement.

The event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, city officials said.

Tickets for the event are $15, with proceeds going to the City of Long Beach Relief Fund.

Tickets are available at the city’s Recreation Center, 600 Magnolia Blvd., or by calling 516-431-3890.
