New York City police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man at a diner in the West Village early Saturday as well as the death of another man found after a fire in Flushing.
In the first death, police responded to the shooting at the Good Stuff Diner on West 14th Street, near Sixth Avenue, shortly before 5 a.m.
The victim, who was not identified Saturday, was shot several times in the chest and head, police said. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The diner reopened at about 1 p.m. A man there who identified himself as the manager said he was not there at the time of the shooting and that he did not want to comment.
At a 7-Eleven store next door, an employee said the person who was working the night shift at the convenience store called 911 after someone from the diner came into the store and alerted him to the shooting.
In the second death, firefighters found the dead man and another who was critically injured after responding to a fire in Flushing, police said.
About 2:50 p.m., police and firefighters responded to a 911 call about a fire at 136-79 Roosevelt Ave. Firefighters doused the flames and found one man dead in an office on the third floor, police said. A second man was taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens, where he was listed in critical condition.
Identities of the men were not released.
The cause of death and what sparked the fire remain under investigation, police said.
