Where the two deer came from and how they ended up near a seawall under the Brooklyn side of the Verrazano Bridge Wednesday are mysteries as yet unsolved by New York's Finest.

What seems clear is that somebody meant them no good.

Officers aboard Harbor Launch 315, a patrol boat that deployed from Jamaica Bay around 2:20 p.m. in response to a 911 call about deer in the water, discovered that one had twine bound around its hind legs.

They discovered that after pulling it aboard with a rope noose attached to a 6-foot pole, a tool New York Police Department spokesman Det. Brian Sessa said they carried with them to rescue animals from the water.

Three other NYPD Harbor Launches rescued the other deer. The animals were tranquilized and taken to Animal Care and Control in the 75th Precinct. "They were a little frantic," Sessa said. "This was kind of weird for them."

Sessa said he didn't know if a crime had been committed, but an investigation was ongoing.
