2nd participant of NYC triathlon dies

A 40-year-old woman who experienced difficulty during the swimming portion of the Nautica New York City Triathlon has died.

Her death on Monday comes a day after a 64-year-old participant died in the race.

Race director Bill Burke confirmed that the Elmhurst, Ill., woman died Monday morning. He says she was believed to have gone into cardiac arrest twice after Sunday's swim.

Her name wasn't released at the request of her family.

Michael Kudryk, of Freehold, N.J., died after he was pulled out of the Hudson River unconscious. Police say he was believed to have suffered a heart attack.

Police say 26 others participants needed assistance for minor injuries or pains throughout the swim.

Participants in the yearly race swim about a mile, bike 25 miles and run 6 miles.
