Police have arrested three people in connection with the death of a 34-year-old woman who was shot while shielding children from bullets outside a Brooklyn school.
Andrew Lopez, 18, and Jonathan Carrasquillo, 22, both of Brooklyn, were arrested on charges of murder, felony assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
A third suspect was arrested on charges of criminal possession of a weapon.
The arrests were announced yesterday. Information on their lawyers was not immediately available.
Police say Zurana Horton was killed as she hovered over students letting out of P.S. 293 Friday afternoon to protect them as the shots were fired.
The mother of 13 was struck in the face and chest and pronounced dead at the scene. An 11-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman were also wounded.
Over the weekend, Horton's neighbors paid tribute to her with a walk for peace that started at the spot she was killed and then went by several housing projects.
The residents were joined by politicians and community activists who called for the violence to stop in their neighborhood. The marchers had called on their neighbors to report anything they know about the shooting to police.
