'Abducted' NJ teen Kara Alongi believed to have runaway to NYC

The New Jersey teenager who became a Twitter sensation by apparently faking her own abduction and then calling a cab to take her to the Rahway train station, is thought to be in New York City, according to published reports.
Kara Alongi, 16, tweeted "there is someone in my hour ecall 911" around 6:20 p.m. Sunday, then called a cab and bought a train ticket for New York.
"There has been no activation of the Amber Alert system. This is being treated as a missing person's case and not necessarily a criminal investigation," Clark Police Chief Alan Scherb said in a statement.
The NYPD did not respond to inquiries as to whether its officers were alerted to look for the missing girl.
Alongi's Twitter account -- studded with adolescent commentary such as "my tummy is making really scary noises," but which has been inactive since Sunday -- swiftly amassed 109,000 followers.
Her grandfather, Paul Alongi Sr., told the Clark-Garwood Patch that they want her to return home.
"We just want her to know, it's OK," he said. "Come on home. We just want you, honey."
