Adam Reed talks 'Archer Live'

Inside jokes, prodigious profanity, T-shirt cannons and, of course, a certain Kenny Loggins song: When the cast of "Archer" travels, it travels right.

As the fourth season of the foul-mouthed cartoon gets ready to kick off on FX Jan. 17, much of the cast has been on the road, drumming up publicity in an unorthodox manner: with a stage show featuring skits, video rarities, live readings of classic scenes and giveaways.After kicking off the show in Los Angeles last week, the cast moved on to Seattle before coming to the East Coast for performances in Philadelphia and, on Saturday, a date at Irving Plaza.

amNewYork caught up with series creator Adam Reed in advance of the show's first live performance for a few questions.

The cast records the voices for the show separately, but seems to still have a great rapport. That cast is ridiculously talented and funny independently, and they all have a great chemistry together. They all have a great chemistry with whoever they're with, really. If you get seven of the funniest people you know all together, there's going to be a bit of trying to be funnier than the person next to you.

How often does the cast get together like this? Annually. Usually for Comic-Con and sometimes TCA [the Television Critics Association press tour]. It's rare, and wonderful when it happens, especially when they're all riffing on each other and have probably just flown in, so they're punchy.

Have we seen the last of Barry, Archer's part-cyborg nemesis and the head of the KGB? Oh no. Not at all. He's voiced by our good friend Dave Willis, and you definitely haven't seen the last of Barry because [Willis] won't let us kill him off.

There's been an "Archer" book and now an "Archer" live show. Which is next: "Archer on Ice" or an "Archer" mixology bar? I think it's going to be synchronized swimming Archer, like one of those old-timey movies with hundreds of people swimming, but Archer-related somehow. But the pool that they're swimming in might be filled with gin.
