Malware seller pleads guilty, gets 57 months in prison
A Swedish man who pleaded guilty to masterminding the sale of computer hacking software to thousands of people in more than 100 countries was sentenced to 57 months in prison in federal court in Manhattan on Tuesday.
Alex Yucel, 25, pleaded guilty in February to heading a cybercriminal organization known as Blackshears that made an estimated $350,000 from 2010 to 2014 by selling a $40 piece of so-called malware that purchasers could secretly implant to gain remote control of others' computers.
Prosecutors said the product enabled widespread theft of personal information, credit cards and passwords.
