For some people, merely watching the royal wedding on April 29 isn’t good enough — they need to get in on the action.
U.K. bookies are cleaning up on wagers for the nuptials between Prince William and Kate Middleton, with bettors placing their money on anything from the event’s music to the guest list.
“You can bet on how late she is going to be and what time is she going be arrive,” said David Williams, spokesman for Lambroke, the Britain’s oldest gambling outlet.
You can even bet on whether Prince Harry will forget the wedding ring at the odds 33-1, said Williams, who predicted that Lambroke will take in about $4 million in wedding wagering.
And when it comes to devising the odds, it’s a lot more complicated than picking a number out of thin air, said Richard Gardner, manager of Bodog Sportsbook. “We had to look at such things as the length of the procession route to determine how long it would take to arrive at Westminster Abbey in the Royal Wedding Car and weather forecasts for the coming month,” he said.
While there are many sites with royal wedding betting, it is illegal to indulge in the U.S. But even though you can’t make some money on it, perhaps you can make a friendly bet with your pals on a few of the categories below:
