amNY picks the Emmys

We here at amNewYork watch a lot of TV — too much, in fact. But because of that, we’re feeling pretty confident about our picks for the Emmy Awards, which are on NBC/4 at 8 p.m. on Sunday. Here’s hoping we’re not ashamed on Monday.

Outstanding Drama Series

• “Breaking Bad”
• “Dexter”
• “The Good Wife”
• “Lost”
• “Mad Men”
• “True Blood”

What will win: “Lost” will get the sentimental nod after its final season, winning its second Emmy (it also won in 2005). The show changed television, and it’ll get rewarded for doing so.

What should win: “Breaking Bad” is a monster show with wonderful performances and constantly shocking scenes. It will get its due eventually, but not this year.

Outstanding Comedy Series

• “Curb Your Enthusiasm”
• “Glee”
• “Modern Family”
• “Nurse Jackie”
• “The Office”
• “30 Rock”

What will win: “Glee” — Funny, feel-good and fantastic — we can’t stop singing the praises of “Glee,” the best new show this season, even transcending the boob tube with live concerts and best-selling albums. “Glee” will break “30 Rock’s” three-year stranglehold on this category.

What should win: “Glee,” with no reservations. Though we loved this past season of “Curb.”

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

• Bryan Cranston — “Breaking Bad”
• Michael C. Hall — “Dexter”
• Kyle Chandler — “Friday Night Lights”
• Hugh Laurie — “House”
• Matthew Fox — “Lost”
• Jon Hamm — “Mad Men”

Who will win: Bryan Cranston — Cranston, who won in 2008 and 2009, has mastered a difficult role on an amazing show. He’ll deserve the trophy every year.

Who should win: Bryan Cranston

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

• Kyra Sedgwick — “The Closer”
• Glenn Close — “Damages”
• Julianna Margulies — “The Good Wife”
• Connie Britton — “Friday Night Lights”
• Mariska Hargitay — “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”
• January Jones — “Mad Men”

Who will win: Julianna Margulies — The former “ER” star is perfect in the role of the wife of a cheating politician. After six  previous Emmy noms, she’ll finally land the prize.

Who should win: Julianna Margulies

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

• Jim Parsons — “The Big Bang Theory”
• Larry David — “Curb Your Enthusiasm”
• Matthew Morrison — “Glee”
• Tony Shalhoub — “Monk”
• Steve Carell — “The Office”
• Alec Baldwin — “30 Rock”

Who will win: Alec Baldwin — This category has been his the past two years and that probably won’t change.

Who should win: Matthew Morrison — The “Glee” star can go toe-to-toe with the superb Jane Lynch, left, deliver great dramatic moments and sing. We’re sold.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

• Lea Michele — “Glee”
• Julia Louis-Dreyfus — “The New Adventures of Old Christine”
• Edie Falco — “Nurse Jackie”
• Amy Poehler —“Parks and Recreation”
• Tina Fey — “30 Rock”
• Toni Collette — “United States of Tara”

Who will win: Edie Falco — She won three times for “The Sopranos,” and “Nurse Jackie” is almost as critically beloved.

Who should win: Lea Michele — “Glee,” the most talked about show of the past season, is filled with great performances, and that starts with Lea.

Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series

• “The Colbert Report”
• “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart”
• “Real Time With Bill Maher”
• “Saturday Night Live”
• “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien”

What will win: “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” — The show has won every year since 2003. Why stop now?

What should win: “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien” — Who wouldn’t love to see Jay Leno’s NBC nemesis walk away with the Emmy while Jay failed to even get a nomination?
