Known affectionately as “The Chief,” Tim Hyde, amNewYork’s former sales representative and classifieds manager, has died at 54.

Born in Glen Rock, N.J., Hyde was known for his sharp sense of humor, welcoming demeanor, love of fishing and uncanny ability to make friends.

“He was loved by many people,” his brother, John Hyde, said Wednesday.

Hyde suffered a heart attack at his Hoboken apartment earlier this week. A private service will be held, and a memorial is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 17 in Summit, N.J.

“Always smartly dressed and ready with a smile, Tim brought grace, style and a sense of fun to amNewYork,” said editor Diane Goldie.

Tim was a “great guy” with a quick sense of humor and formidable business smarts, said amNewYork production manager Jay Cruz. “I hope wherever he is now that the fish are biting.”
