This movie has the makings of a big hit.
John Travolta, Joe Pesci and maybe even Lindsay Lohan are set to star in the big-screen depiction of Gotham’s criminal royalty, “Gotti: Three Generations,” producers announced yesterday.
John Gotti Sr., the Dapper Don who died of cancer in prison in 2002, will be played by Travolta.
“This is probably the most interesting untold story in this country,” Travolta said at a midtown news conference. Pesci — a familiar tough-guy staple in mob movies such as “Goodfellas” — will play Gotti’s mob buddy Angelo Ruggiero. The film is slated to start shooting in October, mainly in New York, and hit theaters late in 2012.
While Lohan has not officially joined director Nick Cassavetes’ cast, the troubled actress attended the Sheraton event. A representative for Fiore Films, which is lensing the pic, confirmed that Lohan is in “serious talks” to play the Don’s daughter, Victoria Gotti.
But who will play John Gotti Jr., who sold the rights to his life story to the movie company?
“Eddie Murphy,” Gotti Jr. joked yesterday. There has been speculation that polymath actor James Franco is being eyed for the role.
Gotti Jr. told reporters yesterday that he was eager to see his family’s story depicted “correctly,” noting: “My father was an icon.”
