Ann Curry's tearful goodbye to 'Today'

Through tears, a choked-up Ann Curry confirmed Thursday that her job of co-host of NBC's "Today" show has come to an end, telling viewers she tried her best and is sorry she couldn't "carry the ball over the finish line."

"For all of you who saw me as a groundbreaker, I'm sorry I couldn't carry the ball over the finish line - but man did I try," Curry said in her emotional farewell.

Thursday was her last day as co-anchor - a much-talked about departure only a year after she nabbed the coveted co-host role alongside Matt Lauer. Curry has worked for "Today" for 15 years, previously as news anchor.

"This is not [how] I ever expected to leave this couch," Curry, 55, said.
As of late, "Today" ratings have dropped significantly.

Curry - who made her announcement flanked by Lauer, Al Roker and Natalie Morales - will still work for NBC with "some fancy new titles," traveling "all over the world and all over the county at a time when this country and this world needs clarity."

It is widely expected that "Today" legal analyst Savannah Guthrie will take Curry's job, though NBC has not confirmed anything yet.
