Even though Conservative talker Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday for calling a Georgetown University law student a "slut" on his radio show last week, the firestorm isn't over.
A seventh company -- ProFlowers -- said Sunday it's pulling ads from Limbaugh's nationally syndicated program, while GOP presidential candidates admonished his language on morning TV talk shows and an online petition calling for his dismissal nabbed more than 4,950 signatures. Limbaugh could also face slander lawsuits, according to reports.
His "recent comments went beyond political discourse to a personal attack," ProFlowers said in a statement.
Limbaugh said he chose the "wrong words" when he called student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and "prostitute" after she testified to Congress about employer health plans needing to include birth control. The controversial host had also said Fluke, 30, should post a sex video online in exchange for taxpayer-funded contraception.
Sonia Ossorio, president of the National Organization for Women's NYC chapter, condemned Limbaugh's remarks Sunday, saying they are "really indicative of how the right wing operates and the level of hypocrisy -- you can't have birth control and you can't have an abortion."
She applauded companies for yanking their ads, and despite Limbaugh's mea culpa, his words can "embolden women at the polls."
