Anthony Mackie chats about his new movie '10 Years'

The new dramedy "10 Years" features about a dozen major, up-and-coming Hollywood actors under 40. Look one way at the high school reunion flick, which opens Friday, and there's Channing Tatum. A few scenes later and in walks Aubrey Plaza. Chris Pratt, Ari Graynor, Oscar Isaac, Brian Geraghty and Justin Long drop in for good measure. The list goes on.

Playing ladies' man Andre, Julliard-trained Anthony Mackie, who catapulted to prominence after starring in "The Hurt Locker," is a key part of the ensemble in Jamie Linden;s movie about a suburban ten-year reunion. amNewYork spoke with the 32-year-old New Orleans native about the film and more.

There are a lot of high school reunion movies and you don't seem like a guy who just does any old thing. What drew you to this one? It was just the cast. I feel like if you look at all the old-school movies like "The Breakfast Club" and movies like that, everybody in that cast was somebody who you really liked or wanted to hang out with. I feel like when you look at this movie, everybody Jamie was able to put together, it's a really cool group of people.

Jamie wrote "We Are Marshall" and you starred with Brian Geraghty in that film and "The Hurt Locker," so did this feel like a reunion for you in a way? That's exactly what it was. I went to Julliard with Oscar Isaac. I pretty much had a connection with almost everybody except Channing in the movie. Hollywood is a really small place, and the more you get to know people, once you get to a point where you've done a number of movies, you just want to work with people you like, because there's nothing easy about making a movie.

When you're on set with so many actors at similar points in their careers, is there any competitiveness? Not really. On "Ten Year," we had a drinking competitive thing. We had a joke going between me, Aaron Yoo, Chris Pratt and I think it was Brian Geraghty. We had a bet to see who would have the highest room tab from the bar.

Who won? I think it was Aaron Yoo. I think Aaron Yoo had a ridiculous tab. He would just disappear and come back three hours later like, "Uhhhh." We were in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so not much to do there.

Anthony Mackie: Bar owner

Besides being an actor, Anthony Mackie is also a Brooklyn bar owner. Here's what he had to say about his NoBar (608 Nostrand Ave., Bed-Stuy), which opened in 2011: "The great thing about NoBar is it's like a French, rustic, old-school New Orleans-style bar. I'm not from New York, or L.A. ... so my idea of going out and having a good time is different. A lot of people go out to be seen. NoBar [is] a great place where you can go and chill, have cheap drinks ... and have a good time.
