Anthony Weiner is in the Rockaways and back on Twitter

He's back! And using the same social networking service that led him to resign from Congress in 2011.

But this time, Anthony Weiner took to Twitter to share with the public Hurricane Sandy's devastating effect on The Rockaways.

Weiner posted a link without comment Wednesday to a short, moving documentary on YouTube by Alex Braverman and Poppy de Villeneuve that showed how Sandy tossed cars into heaps, leveled houses, crumpled up the boardwalk and pummeled streets into sand dunes. Maroon 5's Adam Levine also directed his followers to the film.

It was the first time Weiner -- who, many have postulated, is mulling a return to public life -- has used his dormant Twitter account since June 1, 2011.

That summer, the married rep resigned in disgrace after he publicly tweeted a picture of his crotch that he intended to relay privately to a young woman's Twitter account. His Twitter account (RepWeiner) still describes him as a member of Congress, representing the Ninth District.

Jessica Klein, 32, who grew up in the Rockaways and founded rockawayhelp.com, a clearinghouse that coordinates Rockaway assistance efforts, said the former congressman has been in the Rockaways frequently since the storm and been extremely helpful. In one instance he arranged a ride for her and others to get back to their storm-tossed homes. "People loved that he was out here," Klein said. "He showed what it means to be a civil servant."
