1985: Goes to work for then-Rep. Chuck Schumer at his Washington, D.C., office.
1988: Moved to Schumer’s Brooklyn office at the congressman’s behest.
1991: At age 27, elected to City Council, becoming the youngest council member ever to serve at that time.
1998: Schumer leaves his 9th District seat for a Senate run, and Weiner is elected his replacement.
2000: Weiner’s 39-year-old brother, Seth, is killed in Virginia in a hit-and-run accident while crossing a busy highway.
2005: Weiner mounts an unsuccessful run for mayor.
2010: Weiner marries longtime Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin; former President Bill Clinton officiates the wedding.
March 2010: Roll Call story exposes that Weiner owes thousands of dollars in parking violation fines.
July 29, 2010: Gives impassioned speech castigating Republicans for opposing 9/11 health bill, vaulting him to national prominence.
May 27, 2011: Weiner accidentally tweets the lewd photo that sparks “Weinergate.”
May 30, 2011: Claims his Twitter account was hacked.
June 3, 2011: Admits photo was of him, and admits to online inappropriate contact with at least six women.
June 11, 2011: Announces he will seek treatment of an unspecified type.
June 12, 2011: TMZ publishes photos of a partially undressed Weiner.
June 16, 2011: Weiner resigns from Congress. Apologizes for “personal mistakes.”
Dec. 21, 2011: Huma Abedin gives birth to their first child, Jordan Zain Weiner.
May 21, 2013: He announces for mayor, admits “I’ve made some big mistakes . . .”
Sept. 11, 2013: Weiner finishes a distant fifth place in the mayoral race.
Jan. 15, 2016: A documentary on Weiner’s 2013 mayoral run reveals that his inappropriate behavior continued after he left Congress.
Aug. 29, 2016: More lewd photos surface, including one of his crotch while lying next to his toddler son, who was sleeping. Abedin announces separation from Weiner.
Aug. 31, 2016: New York City Administration for Children’s Services opens investigation into Weiner’s care of his son.
Sept. 21, 2016: The Daily Mail reports that Weiner exchanged sexually suggestive electronic messages with a 15-year-old girl from North Carolina.
Sept. 22, 2016: The FBI and the NYPD begin investigating Weiner’s relationship with the girl.
November 2016: Several news outlets report Weiner has entered treatment for sex addiction.
May 19, 2017: Weiner pleads guilty to transferring obscene material to a minor; faces prison time of 21 to 27 months — though the judge could go outside those guidelines. He also will have to register as a sex offender. Abedin files for divorce, the AP reports.
