Arrest made in Queens arsons
A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday night for allegedly torching a car belonging to a former city councilman in Queens early Sunday morning.
Devon Page, who lived on 50th Street off Skillman Avenue, was charged with five counts of arson, NYPD said. He is accused of lighting up a 2007 Mercury Mariner parked at the Sunnyside home of former Councilman Eric Gioia, who served from 2002 to 2009, around 5 a.m. There were no injuries.
"My car just went up like a Roman candle while in my driveway," Gioia wrote on Twitter Sunday morning.
The NYPD said there were four rubbish fires were spotted nearby on 50th and 49th streets along 39th Avenue.
