At least 3 arrested as Occupy Wall Street marks 2nd anniversary

The day’s events railed on a wide range of subjects, from the “Robin Hood Tax,” student debt and loan rates to Syria, minimum wage, teachers in Mexico and efforts to save the U.S. Postal Service.

Beginning in Zuccotti Park, where about 150 people gathered to hold signs and chant the various familiar OWS phrases, protesters headed north on Broadway to Washington Square Park, where they held a rally before descending on Times Square. Familiar OWS chants, such as “All day, all street, Occupy Wall Street” and “The people united will never be defeated,” frequently broke out.

“We want to show that we’re still here and we’re still angry,” said Miguel Aldrige, 23, of the Bronx, who marched on Broadway and said he also participated in last year’s anniversary. “The banks are still controlling everything and the government can’t do anything to stop that,” he said.

The NYPD would not provide the total number of people arrested in Tuesday’s protests.

The rallies came two years after OWS first launched in Zuccotti, where participants set up an encampment at which hundreds of protesters lived for two months until Mayor Michael Bloomberg shut it down in November.
