A man has been charged with manslaughter after police said he fatally beat another man who allegedly tried to rape his wife inside their Bronx apartment, according to the NYPD.

The incident began when police said Earl Nash, 43, illegally entered the couple’s apartment on Washington Avenue near East 168th Street at around 9:25 p.m. on Monday.

Once inside, Nash allegedly struck Nenegale Diallo, 51, in the head before forcibly removing her clothing, according to police. She was able to break free and call her husband, who was outside the building, on his cell phone, the NYPD said.

When the woman’s husband, identified as 61-year-old Mamadou Diallo, encountered Nash in a hallway of the building, police said he assaulted Nash.

Nash was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and later succumbed to his injuries, according to the NYPD.

Hours after the attacks, investigators combed through the building and guarded the Diallo’s apartment.

Ibrahima Diallo, 52, said his brother is a livery taxi driver and the family came from Guinea nearly 30 years ago.

“He’s doing everything to support his family,” Diallo said, adding he doesn’t think Diallo should be charged because he was simply defending his family when “somebody comes in to kill you at your house.”

Mamadou Sow, 45, lives on the same floor as the couple and was surprised to hear what happened.

“He never has any problems,” Sow said about Diallo. “He’s a good guy.”

Resident Renny Sanchez said she has always felt safe in the building.

“You never think something like that would happen in the building,” she said. “I always feel safe around here, we have a lot of cameras.”

Sanchez said she heard from other people in the building that the man who allegedly attacked Diallo’s wife has been seen hanging in and around the building before.

“I would do the same thing,” Sanchez said.
