Attorney for mobster Vinny Gorgeous argues for life in prison

The attorney for Vincent “Vinny Gorgeous” Basciano made his case Tuesday to allow the reputed former crime boss and convicted murderer to be given life in prison instead of the death penalty, arguing that the mobster will leave the “prison in a box.”

Attorney Richard Jasper made the appeal to jurors in Brooklyn federal court, where Basciano, 51, was convicted last week in the 2004 murder of mob associate Randolph Pizzolo in 2004.

The penalty phase of the trial is not expected to start until after Memorial Day.
