Police say they put the brakes on a group of dirt bike and ATV riders who were wheeling recklessly along a New York City highway.

The New York Police Department got several calls around 5 p.m. Saturday about the motorbikes on the Van Wyck Expressway near Hillside Avenue in Queens.

Police say a 30-year-old rider was arrested on reckless endangerment and other charges after driving his four-wheeled ATV the wrong way on the highway. A 39-year-old motorcyclist was arrested on a criminal nuisance charge.

Police say some other motorcyclists lifted their bikes over the expressway median to flee.

Last September, motorcycle riders and a family in an SUV crossed paths on a Manhattan highway. A biker was run over, and the SUV driver was dragged from his car and beaten.
