Barnes & Noble announced Tuesday that it would launch an eight-gigabyte version of its Nook Tablet for $199 - a last-ditch effort to salvage declining profits, which the company said fell by 14% in the fiscal third quarter. (Amazon's 8GB Kindle Fire also costs $199.) The current 16GB Nook Tablet sells for $249. B&N also said it would cut the price of its Nook Color from $199 to $169.
